Bellydance name: Zaahira (still may change – waiting for the ‘resonation’ to
really sink in!)
What does it mean? shining, illuminous, (I think.)
What is your favorite thing about belly dancing? Three things (not in
order): 1.) the ‘food’ connections with each movement we have created in our troupe
(makes me laugh all the time), 2.) Haflas at the end of class sessions: a chance to
perform and wear a costume. 3.) Creates a feeling of ‘freedom’ to move the body
along with music. I also like the ‘versatility’ of the dance –always something new
to learn, to do, to make: a dance, a prop, a costume, a troupe to form….it’s really the
‘heart’ of living life with a group of women.
Favorite movement or combination: movement: figure 8s. Combinations – the
snake-arm line-formation we do in the Temple Dance.
What else should people know about you? Although I live in Japan at this
time and can’t do a lot with bellydance like before, bellydancing is one of the best
things in my life and will always be in my heart!
