Belly Dance name: Azeret
What does it mean? It’s my name spelled backwards. I like to think of
Azeret as my alter ego.
What is your favorite thing about belly dancing? I like the passion of
it. When I really get into a dance, I feel like I both take in huge amounts of
energy and then give it right back out to the universe.
Favorite movement or combination: the double, weighted hip lift
What else should people know about you? When I first walked in to take
a belly dance class, I felt frumpy and awkward. About a year later, after
having gone through surgery, chemo, and hair loss, one of the little girls of a
fellow dancer came up to me with a flower that I was allergic to. I told her, “I can’t
wear this flower. Why don’t you give it to another beautiful lady?” I realized at
that moment that I felt beautiful. And it was because of this dance.
